Ed Rosenthal, Ganga King to appeal conviction

Ed Rosenthal, author of “Why Marijuana Should Be Legal” and other books, said on Saturday his battle with U.S. government is far from over and that he would appeal his conviction on marijuana cultivation, distribution and conspiracy charges.Rosenthal

In a story on Reuters he makes the point that the federal government is completely out of touch with what is happening out in the real world, relative to the issue of medical marijuana.

In a case involving a California woman who smokes marijuana to ease pain from an inoperable brain tumor, the San Francisco-based U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in March found no fundamental right to marijuana for medical purposes and backed the 1970 federal Controlled Substances Act barring the drug.

The one thing that really needs to be asserted in this country is that we do indeed have a fundamental right to control our medical care. This should be a basic stance in any Libertarian platform. Marijuana is a plant. It is used in its natural state (leaves and flowers). With this in mind, what right does anyone have to limit its use by an adult?

The alleged harmful effects of marijuana usage are an excellent example of group-think mentality. It is a vision that was manufactured during the fifties by people who in any sane world would be certifiable.
