Prisons Purging Books on Faith From Libraries - New York Times

It is tempting for many, I think, to simply say, they’re just prisoners, after all. Who cares? They’ve come up with a small list, really, of acceptable books. I think this is the wrong way to go. They should just have a censor for all donated books. The guy makes a decision, then either oks it or shit-cans it. If it is some kind of inflammatory tract (unlikely), don’t make it available. If it isn’t, what the hell does he care?
I’m beginning to feel somewhat impatient with our modern fascistic tendencies. Granted, this is prison. However, the way I see it, there are a lot of ways to find yourself in prison these days, without doing anything bad to anyone, without in fact, doing anything immoral. There are so many laws to break, almost everyone walking is just a slight slip away from prison.
The way we treat people in this country is deplorable. I notice that there wasn’t a link, nor was there provided a list of the acceptable books. Why is this so difficult?
