Collecting of Details on Travelers Documented - washingtonpost.com
Zakariya Reed, a Toledo firefighter, said in an interview that he has been detained at least seven times at the Michigan border since fall 2006. Twice, he said, he was questioned by border officials about “politically charged” opinion pieces he had published in his local newspaper. The essays were critical of U.S. policy in the Middle East, he said. Once, during a secondary interview, he said, “they had them printed out on the table in front of me.”
All the nightmare scenarios are coming true at an accelerating pace. The people, if they are people, and they may be something “other”, behind these laws that allow this kind of collection of personal information are control freaks. In the passage quoted above, the man was an American fire fighter, for God’s sake! And, because he has expressed an opinion ( in a printed newspaper!!) that is critical of the government, he gets extra screening at the airport?
True cultivation of the wisdom eye, or prajna, means that you must see through lies and ignorance. We live in a society based completely on consumerist values, in fact, the government is essentially in the business of furthering this. As a result, people are more easily controlled and manipulated, because they want their stuff, and they want the government to guarantee that they always get their stuff. They work hard, pay their “fair share” of taxes, vote and bring in some canned corn or beans for holiday food drives. This is what a good citizen is now. They don’t rock the boat, they don’t think too much, at least not outside the little boxes created for them by CNN, FOX, and so forth.
